Here are the talented local residents who lend their expertise as to Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward.
Greg Sudds, Chair
Greg has called Belleville home for the past 29 years. From a young age, Greg had a passion for automobiles and, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, has worked in the auto industry for over 33 years. He is the owner/operator of West City Honda/West City Powersports and is the Past President of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce (2020).
Greg brings a business acumen to the Board and is volunteer Chair of the HSHPE Capital Campaign. Greg, his wife Christine, and three adult children, Kyle, Spencer and Emily, have always had a love for animals. Over the years, their family was lucky to include their Golden Retrievers Ike (Eisenhower), and Kennedy. They currently are loved by their two miniature dachshunds Otto and Lincoln. Growing up their children rescued many animals from around the Bay of Quinte from birds, squirrels and rabbits, to turtles and bats.
Greg states that: “Caring for animals is an important part of raising a family as it teaches many important qualities, kindness, love, compassion and responsibility”.
Donna Endicott, Past Chair
Currently serving as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward, Donna is a retired Regional Director for the Canadian Red Cross (Toronto Region). As a Canadian Red Cross delegate, Donna was deployed for earthquake relief in Armenia (1988), Relief Administration in South Sudan (1989) and to the American Red Cross during Hurricane Andrew’s devastation in 1992. She was previously the Executive Director for Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (Toronto) and the Associate Executive Director for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ontario. Locally Donna has served on the Board of Directors for the Community Development Council (CDC), Three Oaks Foundation, and Friends of the Trail Inc. She joined the Board of Directors in 2016. Donna and her husband have shared their lives with a number of beloved companion animals. Donna has one son and a granddaughter.
Hazzem Koudsi, Vice Chair
Hazzem Koudsi brings a fresh perspective to HSHPE. With 28-year experience in the public sector, a background in Human Resource Management, governance and client relations, Hazzem has vast experience and expertise to contribute as a member of QHS Board of Directors. Hazzem immigrated to Canada from Syria, growing up with different cultural beliefs, his younger years didn’t include animals. He, along with his brothers were finally able to change this, and convince their parents to welcome a cat into the home. The rest is history; throughout the years, Hank has shared his life with companion animals. In Hazzem’s words “I’m so proud to be a part of this fantastic team of loving and caring staff, volunteers and Board of Directors.” Hazzem, we’re delighted to have you on board!
Daniel Ringham, Treasurer
Daniel is a designated CPA and previously studied Economics at the University of Guelph. Before joining Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward board, he served on the board of directors and as the Treasurer for Community Learning Alternatives. He has had many positive experiences with the Humane Society including adopting a rabbit Henri, and a dog Grace. He has learned a great deal about animal welfare, population control and the critical communal need for organizations such as HSHPE to be supported. He is greatly looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that the new building will present, along with the direction that the organization is headed. He is excited to get started!
Arlene Shepard, Secretary
Arlene has an extensive background (37 years) in Magazine Publishing- with focus on marketing and promotion, she is surely an asset to HSHPE and the new initiatives being developed! Arlene recently moved from Brampton, to Belleville with her loving husband Mike, son Daniel, and canine companions Jack and Emmy. During her working life Arlene managed premier magazine brands and spent the final phase of her career on the retail side of publishing. Arlene retired in 2017 as Vice President of Gateway Newstands in Toronto. Whether at the cottage, travelling or golfing, Arlene is enjoying retirement surrounded by family and friends.
Fred Armitage, Director – Prince Edward County
Fred is currently an Intelligence Officer with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation, & Parks. He is a former full-time college professor, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Use of Force Instructor, a Former Ontario Police College Instructor, a Belleville and Waterloo Police Officer and a Current Provincial Instructor with Ontario Government.
Fred has extensive training and a background in various law and enforcement, investigations, aggressive behaviours and emergency response and management.

Fred lives in PEC with his partner who is an executive with RBC.
Brenda Bond, Director – Belleville
Brenda has been involved in the furniture business as a marketing and sales representative for several major manufacturers.
She is the partner of Ian Clark, CIBC Wood Gundy (our investment firm) and an animal advocate and proud parent of an elderly pooch.
Peter Kempenaar, Director – Stirling
Peter is past president and founder of Taskforce Engineering Inc. He is life-long resident of the Quinte Region and has been married to Linda Kempenaar for 39 years. Together they have 3 adult children; Alex who is a High School Teacher at Upper Grand District School Board , Ainsley who is a Physician (Psychiatrist) in Toronto and Alicia who is a Graduate of Ryerson School of Architecture and practicing in Toronto.
Peter is past president of the Quinte Construction Association, past president of Belleville Chamber of Commerce, board member of the Quinte Paddling Club (vice president) and Quinte Rowing Club, committee member for Quinte Tennis Club looking at the construction of a new indoor Tennis Facility in Belleville and board member and Construction Committee Member for Parkside Village Seniors Residence overseeing construction of a $20 Million Seniors affordable housing expansion.
Peter is actively involved in the community promoting economic development and advancement of important causes in our region. He is an advocate for maintaining a favourable business environment in our region.
His interests include: – Competitive Dragon Boat Racing at the National and International level bringing home numerous team medals. – Recreational Hockey, Golf, Tennis, Paddling and Rowing. – Spending time with family and various projects at the cottage. – Spending time with my two young Grandsons.
Peter is the owners of a 20 year old cat who his wife is determined to get to 40 years old.
Wendy McCoy, Director – Marmora
Wendy graduated from Loyalist College with a diploma in Nursing, Queens University Bachelor of Nursing Science and Athabasca University with a Master of Health Studies and worked as a certified Geriatric Nurse Specialist in long term care for 22 years.
Wendy recently sold and retired as a partner from Northstar Refrigeration Ltd, after working alongside husband and partner Lloyd for 26 years. She currently owns, with sister Lisa, Possibilities Inc a vintage furniture and home décor store in beautiful downtown Marmora.
Other activities include:
- charter member of the Marmora Crowe Valley Lions Club, -co-organizer of the Marmora Terry Fox Run
- active member of the Marmora community for the past 38 years – organizing and volunteering on many committees and organizations over the years
- mother of two adult children and Gramma of two grandsons
- avid triathlete, having completed three Ironman competitions
- lover of all animals but especially kitties – currently sharing our home with our two girls – Suzanna and Annabelle (Kitty)
- proud supporter of the Humane Society HPE and other animal care organizations in the Quinte area. Wendy and Her husband Lloyd are major donors to the Capital Campaign and long-time and ongoing supporters and sponsors of HSHPE.
Nicole Peters, Director – Belleville
Nicole is a social worker and mental health professional and currently working at CAMPBELLFORD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL – COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH as a Social Worker, Therapist and Clinical Case Manager.
She has also worked for Calian Canadian Forces Trenton, CAMH, Addictions & Mental Health Services Hastings Prince Edward, and the Children’s Aid Society. Along with a few degrees in Social Work, she has a Master of Social Work from the Dalhousie University in Halifax.
Nicole is a devoted and lovely parent to 3 dogs and 1 cat, which she adopted from HSHPE.
Rhonda Schmidt, Director – Belleville
Rhonda came to the Belleville area in 2007 from a teaching career in her native Alberta. She is presently a gold standard mortgage agent with Centum Mortgage Express. She is a former executive member of the MFRC for many years and of Quinte Gymnastics Club and has also held a seat on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for the City of Belleville. She is excited to be on board with the exciting new changes associated with the HSHPE and their new location! Rhonda enjoys travel and sightseeing, home renovations and also spending time outdoors whether riding her Spyder, biking or skiing and in the company of her two amazing and talented daughters, Mackenzie and Sydney and their Shih Tzu fur babies Wonder and Joey.
