Caring For Animals in Need Since 1970

In the early 1970s, the Quinte Humane Society acquired Eastern Breeders’ property at 527 Avonlough Road to utilize as a public animal shelter. Prior to this, many animals were placed with Quinte Humane Society volunteers who provided foster homes and animal care. QHS was officially incorporated in 1993.

HSHPE continues to operate as an affiliate of the OSPCA reponsible for the Counties of Hastings and Prince Edward and is governed by a Board of Directors and operated by a team of professionally-trained staff.

Growth Demand for Our Services

The population of our region has continued to grow over the last decades, along with a rising rate of pet ownership and an ever-increasing demand for our services. Over the decades, we have evolved to a professional environment, employing animal care attendants with post-secondary training, supported by a skilled management team and governed by a Board of Directors who lend their expertise and experience.
