HSHPE Announces Launch of Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program

Belleville, Ontario – Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward is launching a program to waive adoption fees on senior animals for senior adopters, thanks to support from Bay View Home Hardware.

Effective October 1, 2023, all adoptable animals in HSHPE’s shelter, aged six and older, are available at no cost to qualified adopters, sixty and older.

Older animals in shelters often have difficulty finding new homes, despite having many years of love and devotion left to offer. They can be calmer than younger animals, which can make them a great match for older individuals.

“This program will make the lives of animals and seniors in our region happier and healthier and we wanted to support that in any way we could,” said Chrissy Busscher, co-owner of Bay View Home Hardware in Belleville.

“We are so thankful to Bay View Home Hardware for sponsoring this program. Their financial support helps us address the medical and dental needs of these older animals who come into our shelter, as well as microchipping and spay/neutering if necessary, so they are ready for their new lives,” commented Marilyn Lawrie, HSHPE executive director.

The program replaces the shelter’s previous practice of offering select senior animals to senior adopters at reduced rates.
