Pet Adoption
Every year, HSHPE helps hundreds of animals find new homes with people like you. We can help you find the right pet for your family and provide advice on how to welcome and care for your new family member. In addition, our Barn Cat Program pairs semi-feral cats with farmers and other rural residents.
Reuniting Pets and Owners
HSHPE reunites hundreds of lost animals with their families every year. These lost and/or abandoned animals come into our care from animal control officers and the public.
Caring for Surrendered Animals
Changes to health, housing and other life circumstances mean that every year, some local residents find they are no longer able to care for their pets. HSHPE accepts and cares for these surrendered animals and works to find them new homes.
Animal Care Education
In keeping with our mandate to make all of us better pet owners, HSHPE offers a number of animal care education initiatives. From in-person school and youth centre visits, to blog resources and public information campaigns, we share the latest in animal care advice and facilitate discussions with the next generation of pet owners about the importance of human/pet relationships.
Community Outreach Programs
HSHPE delivers several community-based programs aimed at providing socialization, skill and empathy-building opportunities for a diverse range of community members, including youth, adults with intellectual disabilities and seniors.
