Day 21 – Gus
Day 21 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Gus, a five-year-old Boxer/Lab mix.
This lovely fellow has been in the shelter since August, when he was surrendered through no fault of his own. Gus is good with people once he’s had a bit of time to know you and has lived with men, women and children.
Gus knows how to do a sit, stay, shake a paw and is house trained. He should not be adopted to a home with cats or other small animals, but we think he would do well with another dog friend in the house.
We would really love to see Gus find a new family, whose days he will surely brighten. His adoption fee has been subsidized by supporters and is now $100.
Gus’ Christmas Wish List:
1. That you share this post and tell everyone you know so that this lovely dog needs someone to share his life with.
2. Liver treats for dogs.
If you would like to help make Gus’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 19 – Siggy
Day 19 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Siggy, a very sweet six-year-old cat.
Siggy is an affectionate girl. She can be a bit shy to start but settles in quickly. Because Siggy can be a bit of a picky eater, she gets wet food twice a day.
Siggy’s adoption fee has been subsidized through a donation from the customers and artisans at Tinkered Decor and More.
Siggy is also eligible for our Seniors for Seniors program, which waives the adoption fee completely for eligible adopters over 60.
Siggy’s Christmas Wish List:
1. Someone to shower with affection.
2. Canned pate cat food.
If you would like to help make Siggy’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 18 – Kelly
Day 18 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Kelly, a Retriever/Labrador Mix who loves a good walk!
Kelly is 2-year-old girl who came to the shelter through no fault of her own. She was very nervous and it took some time to trust people again, but now she loves attention and especially enjoys daily walks with the volunteer dog walkers!
She can still be a bit timid at times but once she gets to know you, she is a sweetheart!
Kelly is looking for an active family who likes to spend a lot of time outside. She would prefer a home as the only “child” – no kids or other animals, so she can be the centre of attention.
Kelly’s adoption fee has been subsidized and is now $100.
Kelly’s Christmas Wish List
1. A fresh start in life and a family who will give her all the love, exercise and treats she deserves.
2. More volunteer dog walkers to take her out for walks!
If you would like to help make Kelly’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 17 – Karen and Ellie
Day 17 of our Shelter Advent Calendar is doubly special because it belongs to Karen and Ellie!
Both girls came to us as strays and were not claimed by their owners. But luckily, they found each other and are best friends!
These two lovely ladies have now been in our shelter for a loooong time – over a year.
We would love them to be adopted together, but the priority is to get them to a new home, so we will separate them if we have to.
Their adoption fee has been lowered to $100 each or $160 for the pair!
They are skittish and need a while to settle into new situations. They will need a very patient and understanding home while they settle in.
The way to their hearts is through snacks. Ellie will take treats from your hands and enjoys lick tubes.
They have been spayed. They are not suited to a home with dogs or children (14+ years).
Karen and Ellie’s Christmas Wish List
1. Number one wish would be a new home where they can play and enjoy each other’s company.
2. Number two wish is a new home for each of these girls separately.
If you would like to help make Karen and Ellie’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 16 – Emma
Day 16 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Emma!
Emma is a shy 1 1/2-year-old girl who has been born and raised in foster care. She has been spayed and is now ready to find her forever home.
She is skittish at first, but loves a good bum scratch when she is comfortable with the humans she is around. This cute ball of fur loves to bounce around chasing her toys and run through tunnels.
Emma would love another feline in her home that will help bring her out of her shell. Her feline friend in the home would need to be passive and easy going as Emma can be dominate in her feline relationships. She would be best in a home with older children (10+). Emma also loves a good cat tree, she enjoys being in high places!
Emma does have chronic upper respiratory but currently does not require any treatment for this.
Emma’s Christmas Wish List
1. Pate cat food.
2. A home with a tall cat tree where she could perch and oversee her kingdom.
If you would like to help make Emma’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 15 – Jimmy
Day 15 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Jimmy!
Jimmy is a 1 ½-year-old large Flemish giant rabbit.
He is a sweet, active and curious rabbit, who will sometimes nibble on your fingers.
He can be shy at first but loves to play, run, jump and explore.
Jimmy has been neutered. Spaying and neutering has SO many health and behavioural benefits for rabbits. It reduces territorial and destructive behaviours, it improves litter box habits, and prevents multiple reproductive cancers that rabbits are very prone to. Rabbits live longer, happier, healthier lives when spayed/neutered!
Jimmy’s Christmas Wish List
1. Timothy hay.
2. A home where he will receive lots of patience, attention, socialization, enrichment and time out of his enclosures to play and exercise.
If you would like to help make Jimmy’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 14 – Karma
Day 14 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Karma!
Karma is a 3 ½-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux/Bulldog mix.
She’s a very sweet girl, who can be very nervous at first but once she opens up to you, her personality soars. She can be vocal when she is excited or uncomfortable, so an apartment would not be the best fit for her.
Karma may be able to go home with another calm dog (meet and greet required) but has yet to be tested with cats. A home with older children (10+) and experienced owners would be best to help this beautiful girl live her happiest life.
Thanks to the artisans, staff and customers Tinkered Decor and More, who raised over $1,000 on their raffle basket, Karma’s adoption fee has been subsidized and is now $100 for a qualified adopter.
Karma’s Christmas Wish List
1. A warm spot in front of the fire.
2. Liver treats.
If you would like to help make Karma’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 13 – Skipper
Day 13 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Skipper!
Skipper is a 10-month-old Lionhead rabbit that arrived at HSHPE in July. He’s friendly and curious and has been neutered and is ready to head to a new home.
Like all rabbits in HSHPE care, Skipper is provided a litter box to work on litter training while waiting for his forever home. Despite his small size, he will require a large living space (an exercise pen is ideal) and plenty of time outside of his enclosure to exercise and play. Rabbits will not thrive if left in a small cage; this is a cruel and sad existence that often creates behavioral and medical issues. Providing your new companion attention, exercise, enrichment items, hideouts and toys will ensure they live a happy, healthy, and mentally stimulating life.
Skippers’ Christmas Wish List
1. Timothy Hay.
2. Rabbit toys.
If you would like to help make Skipper’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.

Day 7 – Tabitha
Day 7 of our Shelter Advent Calendar belongs to Tabitha!
This attractive 1 1/2 year old white and tabby girl came into our care as a stray in very rough shape after being hit by a car. She was immediately treated for her injuries which have since healed but she sustained some neurological damage.
This brave girl has had to relearn almost everything – to walk, to eat, to play.
She has made good progress since July but will require a gentle introduction to her new home as she becomes upset and confused with change. She lets this be known by hissing and low growling but conversely, when she is comfortable with you, she converses with sweet trills and chirps. She is a four-on-the-floor cat and can be hand-shy at times.
She is good with other cats and can be dog-tested with an approved adoption application. If successful, we recommend that a calm and respectful dog is best. We feel she would do well in a quiet home with children 12+.
Tabitha’s Christmas Wish List
1. A new home for Christmas with a warm spot to snuggle up.
2. Some help remembering things, like where she left her toys!
If you would like to help make Tabitha’s Christmas Wishes come true, contact us at 613-968-4673 or drop by the shelter.
